The harmony of stone: balancing tradition with a modern outlook

Let’s see why…

Faithful to the artisan tradition of the Veneto region, we have been working Vicenza stone with craftsman’s skill since 1959, the year Renato Celsan founded the workshop that carries his name. Working the stone with manual, only partly modernized techniques enhances its quality without altering the natural aesthetic properties of the raw material. At the workshop we follow the complete manufacturing cycle of each of our products: from the extraction of stone slabs at trusted quarries, to bespoke design to suit customer requirements, to logistical aspects, including delivery of the finished goods.

Vicenza Stone

Vicenza stone is our local, traditional stone, the one we most often work.

This absolutely natural product, quarried in the Berici hills, lying just a short distance from the city, originated from the sedimentation of a coral reef present millions of years ago in the area. Still today, fossils and marine sediments can be seen in the stone’s slight nuances of colour. They bear witness to the history of the local area and this entirely natural formation process, giving the stone its unique qualities.

Vicenza stone is termed soft due to its workability, a highly appreciated characteristic since the time of the Renaissance, leading to its development over the centuries into a key construction material.

The stone was highly valued by the architect Andrea Palladio who exploited its features in his best known architectural masterpieces, including Villa Almerico Capra Valmarana, also known as “The Rotonda”, the Basilica and the Olympic Theatre… to mention but a few.

Over the years, our experience and passion have built our vast knowledge of each stone. Our attention to customers’ needs also permits us to advise on various types of marble, allowing us to achieve the best craftsmanship possible.

Artisan Technique

Artisan Technique

At the workshop in Monteviale we carve stone by hand, reconciling the dictates of tradition with the advantages offered by technology.

Stone-working techniques have evolved in recent years with new machinery being used to add precision and accuracy to the final product. Nonetheless, the craftsman’s irreplaceable artistic finish and attention to detail still give each work its own individual personality.

Our products demonstrate that in the era of automation it is still possible to find high quality, bespoke, handcrafted items, where even the natural imperfections become hallmarks of originality.

At our workshop each item is a unique product, expressing artisanal value built on creativity and the ability to achieve a balance between tradition and cutting-edge technology, over the course of 50 years’ activity.

Our Service

Our Service

Work always starts with a project based on a search for iconography or on the development of a bespoke design. It continues with the production of samples and clay models to communicate the effect and shape of the original design to the client. The various steps in the process are shared with the client through pictures and models, allowing them to follow the creation every step of the way and capitalize on ideas and details that emerge as work progresses.

Throughout the process, the hallmark of the craftsman can be found in the final product, its shapes, the colours of its surfaces, and in the characteristics that proudly distinguish one piece from another, rather like a work of art.

Once work at the workshop is complete, we then coordinate the delivery and logistics management of each individual piece.

Our services include:
  • Consultation and Design
  • Selection of the raw material (stone or marble) and delivery
  • Processing and finishing
  • Packaging
  • Shipment within Italy and abroad
